The Performer:

With a vast array of performances that include a tour of Spain with the Fredonia Guitar Quartet, a third-place finish at the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society's National Competition, and a featured performance at the Roland Dyens International Arranging Festival, guitarist Stephen Brew has effectively established himself as a performer of incredible talent and ability. His musicianship has allowed him the opportunities to perform at the Rantucci International Guitar Festival, The Schadt National String Competition, Indiana Public Medias WFIU, Louisvilles "The Classical Hour," and countless other performances across the Midwest and East Coast.

His repertoire selections represent a unique approach to programming, as evidenced by his affinity for jazz, folk, and new music. The late Roland Dyens has described his jazz arrangements as "truly excellent" while composer Don Freund has described him as "technically dazzling" and "an interpretive showcase." His doctoral final project consisted of a series of arrangements for solo classical guitar in the style of jazz pianist Art Tatum.

In addition to his performance exploits, Stephen is a committed instructor, directing the guitar departments at Stonehill College and Bunker Hill Community College in Eastern Massachusetts.

Dr. Brew holds a doctorate in guitar performance from Indiana University, where he studied under maestro Ernesto Bitetti. He also holds degrees from Syracuse University and the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he studied with Kenneth Meyer and James Piorkowski, respectively.
