J.S. Bach & Sons: The Milan Bach
This program brings together the brilliance of Bach the father, with the exuberance of his youngest son Johann Christian. You'll hear three J.S. Bach gems: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring from Cantata 147, Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3, and festive Sanctus in D Major, BWV 238 together with the Calgary premiere of Bach's inspired version - complete with added compositional flourishes - of Missa in C Minor by Italian baroque composer Francesco Durante. This will be contrasted with the passionate Gloria in excelsis Deo by Bach's youngest son, Johann Christian; dating from the days when he was known as 'The Milan Bach.' Calgary Bach Choir will be accompanied by our professional chamber orchestra and joined by operatic soloists Jonquil Koddo, Jillian Bonner, Jason Ragan and Aaron Dimoff.
