November 17, 2018 Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
Magnificent music for a Saturday evening, this concert explores the composer's work that "raises its voice, magnificent and eloquent, satisfying the soul of its original audience -- and today's. Jean Sibelius' "Finlandia" calls forth the citizens of his country to strengthen their will, and Dimitri Shostakovich's "Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Opus 47" speaks to the need to uplift the soul of his country. Adolphus Hailstork's "Epitaph: For a Man Who Dreamed: In memoriam: Martin Luther King, Jr." is a tribute to a man and a movement that changed history.
