Nepal Indigenous Film Festival & NIFF Award 2018
Nepal Indigenous Film Festival (NIFF) & NIFF Award 2018 promotes and celebrates indigenous Nepali culture, language, and costume through the power of storytelling. The festival provides a platform to support emerging and established voices, discover gifted filmmakers, promote quality films with indigenous themes among a diverse audience, and inspire and educate a new generation of film enthusiasts through premieres, exhibitions, film screenings, and live performances. Organized by the Federation of Indigenous Peoples of Nepal in America (FIPNA), Nepal Indigenous Film Festival and NIFF Awards 2018started last year and FIPNA aims to develop it into a major platform for cultural and economic activity by bringing together indigenous Nepali filmmakers, artists, and people from all walks of life.
Out of 12 million indigenous population of Nepal, more than hundred thousand reside in the United States and above thirty thousand live in New York. The challenge for us is to transfer our indigenous culture to the second generation of Nepali indigenous peoples in America. We expect this festival to play a part in fulfilling our goal. Twenty five full movies and 9 short movies were selected from Nepal. Of that lot, top 7 to 10 films will be screened during the festival.
