Event
Baroque, Brass and Beyond at St. Helen's
An evening of chorales, choruses and cantatas for the Season. Johann Ruhnau was Bach's predecessor in Leipzig - Dietrich Buxtehude had the greatest influence on Bach's organ performance and composition - Heinrich Schütz and Michael Praetorius were two of the most influential composers before Bach. The inclusion of settings by Schütz and Bach of virtually the same text in the second half provides a meaningful connection and demonstration of the evolution of the music. This program celebrates the diversity and connections within Baroque choral composition, and will make the most of our collaboration with "A Touch of Brass."
