Robert Aitken: Lalita for solo flute and ensemble
Toru Takemitsu: Bryce for flute, 2 harps, marimba and percussion
Iannis Xenakis: Phlegra for 11 instruments
Brian Cherney: Die Klingende Zeit
Robert Aitken will join us for a celebration of his lifes work. Aitken is a world-renowned flutist, composer, and conductor and has worked with such luminaries at John Cage, George Crumb, Elliott Carter, and many others. In this unique collaboration with SMO, Aitken will be playing some of his own music, as well as that of Toru Takemitsu and conduct works by Iannis Xenakis and fellow Canadian Brian Cherney.
