Hagen String Quartet: Beethoven | Shostakovich | Schubert
After recitals given by the four world-class string players from Salzburg, rapt audiences remain entranced several minutes with quasi-absolute stillness in their thoughts, well aware that they have experienced something truly exceptional, as the press has noted. On these occasions, concertgoers share the wish that the music would never stop.
Noteworthy: The Hagen Quartet was founded in 1981 by four Hagen family siblings (second violin Rainer Schmidt joined the quartet in 1987) in Salzburg, Austria. The quartet members are teachers and mentors at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Hochschule für Musik Basel. The formation made its Salzburg Festival debut in 1984.
The complete recordings of the Mozart string quartets were released in 2006. In the 20122013 season, the Hagen Quartet performed the complete Beethoven cycle in New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Salzburg and Vienna.
