Event Press Release for Seattle Slack Key Festival 2018
The 10th Annual Seattle Slack Key Festival is produced by the Naalehu Theatre and is sponsored by Outrigger Resorts. The festival includes a full day of entertainment and features many of Hawai'i's Master Musicians including: Jerry Santos, Kamuela Kimokeo, Amy Hanaialii Gilliom, George Kuo, Jeff Peterson, Blaine Asing, Kunia Galdeira, Sonny Lim, Kevin Kealoha, Ikaika Marzo, Jeff Au Hoy, Kapono Lopes, Adam Asing, Patrick Landeza, Elias Kauhane and more. Emcees Honolulus Skylark Rossetti and Braddah Gomes along with Hula Halau Pulamahiaikelikolehua add to this fantastic line-up. We'll also enjoy Hawai'i's tropical flowers and prize drawings.

Workshops in Slack Key, Steel Guitar, and Ukulele on November 10, 2018 beginning at 10:00-12:00am and 12:30-2:00pm. for $40 per session
Nana ka maka; ho'olohe ka pepeiao -watch with the eyes, and listen with the ears. Thus, one learns. This traditional method provides the perfect instruction to this rich tradition. Students of all levels will be guided through simple exercises and solos to create the slack key sound.
Slack key can be played on any guitar, acoustic or electric. The term refers to both the musical style and the myriad ways the instrument is tuned. Instructors teach several traditional tunings. In addition, you'll learn the use of vibrato, harmonics, slurs, harmonies in thirds and sixths, legato playing and other musical ideas that have helped create a distinctive guitar sound. This lush finger-picking style will add new sounds and flavors to your entire repertoire.
