Jazz @ The Dance Hall: OURBIGBAND featuring Special Guest Greg Abate
Ourbigband Jazz Orchestra presents a collaboration featuring world renowned Jazz Saxophonist, Greg Abate on Friday, September 14th at 8 PM.
Multi-instrumentalist, Greg Abate, also a composer and educator, tours internationally many days out of the year and is a world-renowned jazz recording artist and performer. A veteran of the lead alto saxophone chair in the Ray Charles Orchestra as well as a stint in the Artie Shaw Orchestra, Gregs first recording as a leader, released on the Candid label, took place at Birdland in New York City and featured jazz veterans James Williams, Rufus Reid, and Kenny Washington.
Gregs latest recording, Kindred Spirits, features legendary alto saxophonist Phil Woods and the Tim Ray trio. Abate has released 17 recordings as a leader to date and there is no sign of him slowing down anytime soon. Phil Woods had this to say about Greg, I sleep a lot better knowing there are alto players like Greg! It was a joy to make music with him and he writes good songs that are challenging.
Ourbigband is comprised of instrumentalists, composers, bandleaders, educators, and like-minded musicians who take quite seriously the charge to keep alive the tradition of the big band jazz orchestra. This collaboration with Greg Abate furthers Ourbigbands commitment to seek out and work with the finest living jazz performers and composers.
