Crane Operator & Rigging Safety Course
Dates: Wednesday, November 7 and Thursday, November 8 Time: 8:30 am 4:00 pm (class will start at 8:30 am each morning, and may end earlier than 4 pm depending on the needs of the class participants) Location: Maine Yacht Center 100 Kensington Street Portland, ME
This class is limited to members of MMTA. It will be geared toward crane operators and instilling a better understanding of safe practices in rigging and hoisting. The course will cover the following topics: Overview of Crane Operations (29CFR1910.179) Load Capacities & Chart Interpretations/Reading Crane Accident Causes & Control Safe Rigging Practices & Applications (29CFR1910.184) Rigging Accidents & Control Inspection Practices for Cranes and Hoisting Gear Crane Safety Test Below the Hook Rigging Test
Instruction will include hand out materials, films, workshops, Power Point. Ample time has been allotted for Q&A as well as breaks. Morning coffee and lunch will be provided each day. Participants must bring a calculator to class as it will be necessary for the successful completion of the classwork. Participants who successfully complete the Crane Safety and Rigging Safety tests will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
Who Should Attend: This class is intended for your companys designated crane operator. You may also want to send the operators direct supervisor. The class would also be beneficial for someone in your company who is currently training to become a designated operator. The class will NOT provide instruction in how to operate your crane and will assume, at the very least, a basic understanding of crane operation and rigging.
Fee: Cost per person (for MMTA members) is $350.00 for both days (incl. handout materials, morning coffee and lunch for each day) Participants must bring their own pocket calculator.
About the Instructor: Bob Burdick is a Professional Safety Consulting and Trainer with 28 years of experience as an Occupational Health & Safety professional in the General Industry and Construction field. He is retired from his role as a safety officer for FEMA MATF-1 in Massachusetts. He is certified NCCO crane instructor and a Master Rigger instructor. Bob is an active member of the safety industry serving as Chair for the National Safety Council Conference Committee for Maine, Chair for the MESHE (Maine Employers for Safety and Health Excellent), member of SHARP and SHAPE with The Maine Department of Labor and actively involved with OSHA.
