The By & By
Boston-based group The By & By offers a fresh approach to American Roots music. On stage, the trio summons the spirits of gospel and blues, the plaintive cry of country music, and infuse it with a modern edge. Drawing on improvisational skills honed at New England Conservatory, where Leah Hennessy (vocals), Jacob Means (mandolin) and Brad Barrett (bass), met and formed The By & By in 2014, the group explores contemporary interpretations of traditional music ranging from the Carter Family to Muddy Waters and Blind Willie Johnson, as well as original songs written by Hennessy. Their sound has the lightness and elasticity of old dance partners anticipating one another's moves as they glide across the room, Hennessys bluesy and jazz-inflected vocals anchoring the intricate counterpoint between Means' mandolin and Barrett's bass. The resulting sound, inventive and yet familiar, forges new territory for the American String Band tradition.

Stash Wyslouch is a musician based out of the Boston area. He currently leads his own band, The Stash Band, thats been described by the Boston Herald as a Sonic Kaleidoscopic of Weirdness and Wonder. Stash plays guitar in Old-Time Appalachian Stringband trio Molskys Mountain Drifters and can also be found playing guitar with the Jacob Jolliff Band, Corporate Punk (Sean Trischka) and Tony Trischkas Early Roman Kings. A songwriter, composer, guitarist, teacher, music appreciator and nerd, Stash is known for his whacky neo-flatpick style and inventive compositions and improvisations. Hes released two albums of original music with The Stash Band* and played on dozens of records as a supporting musician.
