"Footloose!" presented by Stage Left Productions
TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR!! We will see you at the Santa Barbara High School Theater!
Get ready to kick up your heels this summer as STAGE LEFT PRODUCTIONS presents FOOTLOOSE. This high-energy musical will lift your spirits and make you want to dance. The performance deals with family tensions, being an outsider and fighting for what you believe in. Dancing is not a crime; to miss Footloose would be! More than 60 local young performers, ages 9 to 17, will capture the look and sound of the 80s with this American classic. So come kick off your Sunday shoes at Santa Barbara High School Theatre 700 East Anapamu Street, Saturday and Sunday July 21st and 22nd. Show times are 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. each day. Tickets are $12.00 for General Admission and $25.00 for Reserve Seating, and can be purchased at the door. Stage Left Productions offers an intensive 4-week summer performing arts program for young performing artists of all experience levels. The training program includes dance and vocal instruction, set and costume design and construction, actor training, improvisation and audition technique. And while they are singing and dancing their hearts out, the young actors are simultaneously learning valuable lessons in confidence, cooperation, respect and team spirit. In addition, Stage Left offers a technical track that allows students to explore their interest in what it takes to build a show behind the scenes. Now in its 18th year, Stage Left Productions was created and developed by Shana Lynch Arthurs and Steven Lovelace. Shana Lynch Arthurs, a California credentialed teacher who teaches performing arts at Crane Country Day School, is also a trained and working professional in the performing arts. Steven Lovelace is a Movement and Music specialist at Peabody Charter School, along with recently creating Peabodys first student dance company, PantherDance. He is also the current Director of Religious Exploration at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Congregation. Local music instructor, including at Santa Barbara High School, Sio Tepper will provide music direction and vocal training; along with Stage Left alum Sarah Eglin who will provide band direction and accompaniment. Inspired sets, sounds, lighting, and costumes are being created under the direction of Jonathan Mitchell and Sophia Hurtado. FOOTLOOSE, inspired by the wildly popular 1984 movie, thrilled Broadway audiences for nearly two years. It's a story of American spirit - a carefree city kid transplanted to a conservative rural town where rock 'n roll and dancing are forbidden, who takes on the authorities, makes all the right moves, and wins the girl. FOOTLOOSE, the stage adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, is based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford. The musical features all the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top-40 score from the film ("Almost Paradise," "Holding Out For A Hero," "Let's Hear It For The Boy," etc.) mixed with new material written specifically for the stage musical. The score contains music and lyrics by Tom Snow and Dean Pitchford, with additional music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman. Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people and guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.
