Baroque Arts Project in Characters of the Dance
Characters of the Dance is a tantalizing blend of baroque music and dance featuring a variety of theatrical dances from France, England, Germany, and Italy paired with complimentary selections for harpsichord/organ and natural trumpet. Included are dazzling virtuoso works for musician and dancer alike by Charpentier, Couperin, Lully, Handel, Bach, Vejvanovsky, and Schmelzer. The majority of the dances are taken from period choreographies, and the character vignettes include a mythological sorceress, a pastoral shepherdess, a graceful sea nymph, and comic Venetian masques. The programming is adaptable, appropriate for stage or intimate salon according to your concert series.
