"Upping My Numbers" A New Musical by Hally McGehean and Joe McGinty
Upping My Numbers
A New Musical

Book & Lyrics by Hally McGehean
Music by Joe McGinty
With Hally McGehean, Joe McGinty, Jeremy Chatzky, Julian Maile, and Eddy Zweiback

Hally tries to justify a life spent in pursuit of love by recounting her sexual adventures.

Hally wakes up naked under the sheets of a lovers bed, her smokey eyes now smudged, her voice raspy from gin and cigarettes. Getting dressed piece by piece of clothing, she enumerates her lifes sexual encounters to her new friend, looking for a greater story to justify a life spent in the pursuit of love, and preparing for another walk of shame.

With twelve original songs by McGinty and McGehean, Hally sings about each of her partners in intimate and often funny detail; her reverse burlesque reminds us all of the sweet awkwardness that often accompanies new relations. Her arc is both empowering and heartbreaking.

I wanted to play a forty year old woman in command of her sexuality and her age. McGehean, who is forty-six, said, There arent many roles in musical theater for us. Now there is one more.

Hally McGehean makes fine, pop, and wearable art. Her clients include the Whitney Museum of American Art, Michelle Obama, and Oprah Winfrey. Her work has been photographed by Terry Richardson and Nick Knight and has appeared in Playgirl, Teen Vogue, New York, Paper, Complex, and Bitch Magazines.

Before segueing into visual art, Hally was an actress for 30 years and had principal roles in the Broadway productions of Annie and Peter Pan.

Hally studied philosophy at Columbia University and Shakespeare at the British American Drama Academy, Balliol College, Oxford.

Joe McGinty was the keyboardist for The Psychedelic Furs, is the founder and music director of the Loser's Lounge tribute series at Joes Pub, and co-owner of Sid Gold's Request Room in Chelsea.

McGinty has worked with Ryan Adams, The Ramones, Martha Wainwright, Devendra Banhart, and Ronnie Spector, was musical director of the Vineyard Theatre and the New York Theater Workshop, and composed and/or produced music for "One More Time", "Super Sleuths", "Bored To Death", "The Daily Show", "G String Divas", "The Virginity Hit", "Last Chance Harvey" and the Oscar nominated "What Happened, Miss Simone".

What people are saying about UPPING MY NUMBERS:

"Hally McGehean is the Eartha Kitt for our time."

"If Id been wearing socks, they would have been knocked off."

"Hally McGehean is unbelievably talented, brave, and hilarious in UPPING MY NUMBERS. Who doesn't get naked and sing about every grisly and jubilant detail of each lover you've ever had? So ballsy. So brilliant."

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
