Big Bach Bash - Cellists Zuill Bailey, Mike Block, Melissa Kraut & Jennifer Morsches
The Big Bach Bash is culmination of the Bach Cello Suites Workshop held once a year in Albany, New York. Faculty choose some of their favorite pieces to perform solo and in ensemble. The public is invited to attend this always joyful, exciting concert closing a week of intense study of Johann Sebastian Bach's six suites for cello by passionate amateurs from all of the U.S. This fabulous ensemble is not to be missed. Participating cellists will offer selected pieces as well.
The concert will take place at the College of St. Rose in the beautiful Picotte Hall in the Massry Center for the Arts.
Zuill Bailey, Artistic Director, widely considered one of the premiere cellists in the world, is a distinguished soloist, recitalist, Artistic Director and teacher. And a 2017 Grammy winner! His rare combination of celebrated artistry, technical wizardry and engaging personality has secured his place as one of the most sought after and active cellists today.
Mike Block is a pioneering multi-style cellist, singer, composer, and educator, hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the "ideal musician of the 21st-Century." While still studying at the Juilliard School, Mike joined Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, with which he has toured extensively throughout the world, and won a 2017 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album. Mike is also an active recording artist of original material, folk music, cross-cultural collaborations, and he has an ongoing project to record all of the Bach cello suites in acoustically glorious bathrooms of famous concert halls, via BachInTheBathroom.com.
Dr. Melissa Kraut is recognized as one of the leading pedagogues of her generation. Having developed and trained some of the outstanding young musicians of today, Dr. Kraut has demonstrated a unique ability to teach all ages and stages of dedicated students, helping them reach their highest potential both at and away from the cello.
Jennifer Morsches enjoys a stimulating freelance career as recitalist, chamber musician, continuo cellist and orchestral player in the UK, on the Continent and in her native USA. She is the principal cellist of Florilegium, with whom she has recorded numerous award-winning discs for Channel Classics Records, and with whom she performs regularly around the globe.
