Yuri Juarez and the Afroperuano Group
Yuri Juarez and his Afroperuano band are proof that the music of Peru is fast occupying a prominent part of the world stage. If you havent heard these musicians perform you are in for a great treat. Yuri and the members of his band are internationally acclaimed and their shows are nothing short of fabulous.

Yuri is a guitarist, arranger and composer who began his career in 1996 as guitarist for various groups of Afro-Peruvian music, folk, and fusion. Yuri has shared the stage and recorded with musicians like Eva Ayllón, Susana Baca, Pilar de la Hoz, Carmina Cannavino, Mariella Valencia, Pamela Rodriguez, Elena Romero, and iconic Peruvian composers such as Kiri Escobar and Javier Lazo, and trail blazing bands including the Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Sextet, Novalima, Teatro del Milenio and Sin Líneas en el Mapa, among others.

Yuri has performed in a number of shows written by Charles R. Hale, including, The Musical History of the Lower East, "New York: A Shining Mosaic and Yuri appeared with his Afroperuano band in last years series New Yorkers: Together in Story and Song.

In 2006, Yuri released his first internationally-acclaimed album with its own repertoire and important composers such as Chabuca Granda, Carlos Hayre, and Chucho Valdes. In December 2009, Juárez received the Latin Jazz Corner Awards in the categories of Best Afroperuvian Jazz Album and Best Latin Jazz Guitarist debut for his Afroperuano.

"Guitar Sapiens" is Yuri's latest and most ambitious project. Music World Report wrote, "Sometimes a recording will come along which possesses such vitality and strength of purpose that it forces one to look at traditional and contemporary music from an altogether new perspective. Guitar Sapiens is such a record."
