Riverbend Opera Presents Puccini's "Suor Angelica" and "Il tabarro"
Puccini's Triptych ("Il trittico") was premiered at the Met in New York in 1918. We have paired two verismo gems from that threesome for a double-bill concert of amazing music. "Suor Angelica" is the story of a convent of Sisters, one of whom has a dark secret. "Il tabarro" (The cloak) is a story of a couple who own a freight barge on the Seine in 1918, and who have a dark tragedy in their past that has changed everything in their relationship. Each of these amazing works has a palette of lively characters whose interactions set the stage for the main story. Come hear our terrific cast of professional artists present these works. In the original language with English surtitles.
This concert is presented as a co-production with Southwest Chamber Players.
