Alan Tormey - Second Commentary on the Natures of Realism (2014)

Pittsburgh-based Eclectic Laboratory Chamber Orchestra produces concerts and multimedia performances that are informed by the American experimental tradition and that actively cross-pollinate between popular and avant-garde musical styles. For this festival, they will be presenting Alan Tormey's A Second Mediation on the Natures of Realism, for three analog electronic instruments. This work connects the contemporary sonic realism of Acoustic Ecology and Soundscape Studies to the international and classically-inspired musical grammar that was common to both Soviet Realism and American Social Realists such as Aaron Copland or Roy Harris.

BRIANNA MATZKE

Paul Schuette- Puzzle Pieces (2014)
Molly Joyce- Amplify (2014)

The Stockhausen Response Project commissioned innovative pieces for solo piano by asking composers to respond to one historic piece: Mikrophonie by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Pianist Brianna Matzke will present two selections from the project (by Paul Schuette and Molly Joyce) that echo Stockhausen's creativity, reimagining the sound world of the piano by integrating electronics.
