Ancora Presents: Postcards
Inspired by a world full of exotic choral sounds from Russia, Spain, Japan, and Persia, Ancora, a Seattle-based womens choir, presents "Postcards: Songs from the Four Corners." The rich poetry and culture of these faraway places will come alive in settings by a variety of international composers.
- From Behind the Caravan: Songs of Hafez is the centerpiece of the concert featuring mystic 14th century Sufi poems in an arresting setting by Abbie Betinis.
- Bob Chilcotts suite Furusato presents five evocative arrangements of Japanese songs.
- Suite de Lorca, on poems by Federico Garcia Lorca, won worldwide fame for Finnish composer, Einojuhani Rautavaara.
- The young Sergei Rachmaninoffs Six Choral Songs reflect on the romance and nostalgia of Old Russia.
