Live at Studio5: FUMÉE GYPSY PROJECT

Christy Bennett discovered the music of Django Reinhardt as a child and kept returning to gypsy jazz as a favored genre until finally forming Fumée several years ago to perform Djangos music with her own arrangements. Django, of course, was an instrumentalist who composed instrumental pieces, but during Djangos lifetime lyrics were written to many of Djangos tunes. As a vocalist, Christys love of Djangos music and her interest in performing it turned into quite a research project as she set out to find the original lyrics to as many of Djangos songs as possible. Now several years on, she believes she has assembled the entire catalog, which she has recorded with Fumée on a beautiful new CD, Lost Lyrics. Christy has a lovely, sweet, tuneful voice and she has surrounded herself with a superb collection of musicians to play in a style consistent with Djangos own bands. This will be Fumées first appearance at Studio5. We are excited to hear the group and we look forward to chatting with Christy about the process of creating this wonderful recording.
