Duets featuring Kaleena Miller, JT Bates, Cody McKinney, and Bryan Nichols
Everwood Farmstead Foundation continues its 7th season of the Artist Series with the premiere of Duets featuring tap dancer Kaleena Miller with JT Bates (drums), Cody McKinney (bass), and Bryan Nichols (piano) on Saturday, September 15th.

"Duets" is a new work from tap dancer Kaleena Miller with renowned Twin Cities musicians JT Bates (drums), Cody McKinney (bass), and Bryan Nichols (piano). Together these extraordinary collaborators explore a diverse range of sound and texture, sophisticated rhythms and counterpoint, and the influence of sound on movement and movement on sound. Duets is a remarkable work of musicality and virtuosity at its finest.

Kaleena Miller is co-director of the Twin Cities Tap Festival and director of Kaleena Miller Dance. She is a founding member of Rhythmic Circus, and toured extensively with the group from 2009-2017. She is a 2015 McKnight Dance Fellow and was named one of DANCE Magazine's "25 to Watch" in 2016. Kaleena has received funding from the Jerome Foundation and Minnesota State Arts Board, and has been commissioned to create work for the Walker Art Center.

JT Bates is a drummer, keeping time and playing songs with folks like Greg Brown, Erik Koskinen, Frankie Lee, Dead Man Winter, The Pines, Mason Jennings, Trampled by Turtles and Bon Iver.  He is also a curator. The Jazz Implosion, now in its 17th year in the Twin Cities, has solidified modern and avant-garde music in the Twin Cities scene.

Cody McKinney is an award winning composer, sound artist, bassist, and educator. He has been commissioned by the Walker Art Center to perform original work alongside the legendary Merce Cunningham Dance Co. His work has been featured on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, ESPN, and VH1. Cody curated Reichfest!, a four week musical celebration of pioneering composer Steve Reich, and co-curates Sound/Simulacra, a monthly concert series at Jazz Central Studios.

Bryan Nichols is a pianist, composer, and educator based in Minneapolis. Often found playing jazz and improvised music, but at home in a variety of musical worlds, he leads and composes for his own trio, quintet and nonet. He is a recipient of a 2011 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists and a residency at the Kennedy Center for Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead program. Bryan released an album of original solo piano work in 2016, titled Looking North, a follow-up to his quintet album of 2011, Bright Places.

Everwood's Pay-What-You-Can ticket price is simple-choose your ticket price from the list above. One-half of your ticket price will be provided to the artists and the other half will be distributed through Everwood's Aspiring Artists Fund. The Fund provides grants to arts-focused teachers in Barron, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties for projects that spark wonder and talent in their young, aspiring artists. Everwood reveals a recipient(s) at each performance. Since 2010, Everwood has donated almost $18,000 to local school programs.
