Live Music Project 4th Annual Lecture-Concert with Mikhail Shmidt
The Live Music Project celebrates its 4th birthday with a scintillating lecture from a cyborg, a centuries-spanning solo violin performance by Mikhail Shmidt of the Seattle Symphony, a ticket giveaway, and the most adorable cupcake toast this side of the Cascades.

A cyborg (short for cybernetic organism) is a being with both organic and biomechatronic body parts. Our delightful guest speaker, Casey Middaugh, is a cyborg. In a comedic and educational chat, she will explain both what that means and how it came to pass.

This event is 21+. Seating is open. Arrive early to find your favorite spot and order food.

Schedule:

6:30pm-7:00pm - Food, drink, mingling
7:00pm-7:45pm - Casey Middaugh: CYBORG
7:45pm-8:00pm - Cupcake toast & door prize drawing
8:00pm-8:40pm - Mikhail Shmidt, solo violin
8:45pm-9:30pm - Food, drink, and more mingling!

Tickets: $20 (early-bird), $30 (after April 15). Proceeds benefit the Live Music Project.

ABOUT MIKHAIL SHMIDT

Born in Moscow, Russia, Mikhail Shmidt who plays first violin with the Seattle Symphony began his musical education at age five and won the Concertino Prague at age 14. He graduated cum laude from Gnessin Institute of Music, where his major teachers were Hallda Akhtiamova and Valentin Berlinsky of the celebrated Borodin Quartet. While still at college, Shmidt was a member of the highly successful Gnessin String Quartet. He also played in the State Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Radio String Quartet, and was Concertmaster of Baroque orchestra Camerata Boccherini. Among the highlights of his chamber music activities are his collaborations with such diverse and distinguished composers and musicians as Steve Reich, John Zorn, Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, Giya Kancheli, Paul Schoenfield, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Vadim Repin and many others.

ABOUT THE CYBORG

Casey Middaugh makes interactive art. Sometimes that looks like stand up comedy, other times it looks like games or immersive theater. Her work and performances have appeared all over the world including Los Angeles, New York City, London, and Americus, Georgia. She is currently working on an Interactive Arts Festival about grief called Good Mourning, which will open in Seattle on November 7th, 2018.

ABOUT THE LIVE MUSIC PROJECT

The Live Music Project is a non-profit organization that builds software to support the classical music community. We believe that access to the arts begins with access to information about the arts; our programs include an online classical concert calendar and Spontaneous Free Tickets, which distributes thousands of free concert tickets to the Seattle community. Our work connects people with live classical music in a way that strengthens community, celebrates listener agency, and amplifies local arts resources  and were thrilled to be entering our 5th year in service of this mission. We hope youll come mark this milestone with us on May 1!
