The Terrence Brewer Trio
Described by JazzTimes as "A melodic improviser with an exquisite tone and an abundance of soul," Bay Area guitarist and composer Terrence Brewer joins us for an amazing evening of jazz. Born in Oklahoma but raised in the East Bay, Brewer cut his teeth in the San Francisco jazz scene, studying with Charlie Hunter and Mark Levine before rocketing to national attention with his 2006 debut release, The Calling: Vol. One. He has shared the stage with artists including Diana Krall, Mary Wilson, Gerald Albright and the Doobie Brothers' Michael McDonald, and released six albums on his own Strong Brew label. In addition to his relentless schedule as an in-demand performer with his jazz combos and ultra-funky Citizen Rhythm project, Brewer is a dedicated educator, conducting workshops and master classes around the Bay Area.
"(Brewer's) guitar work is fluent, and his feel for the groove is unerring... " Billboard
"A naturally gifted player with a beautiful, warm tone and a melodic penchant, his playing is eminently pleasing. " JazzTimes
Tiffany Austin will be joining the band as a special guest:
Vocalist Tiffany Austin's tradition-rooted yet totally modern style has established her as one of the fastest rising jazz stars in the nation. Before earning a law degree at U.C. Berkeley, shed performed on three continentsaround her native Los Angeles while attending college, then for a year in England, and eventually for five and a half years in Tokyo. However, instead of taking the bar exam, she decided instead to devote her life to her first love, music.
Austin's music and voice draw upon influences such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and Aretha Franklin, yet she also infuses songs with her own signature style that is precise, intelligent, and soulful.
Together for the First Time!
