GRIM
A hapless film crew attempts to document the life of a notorious local legend and self proclaimed criminal mastermind, meeting a few of his friends and his many foes along the way.

Notable Filming Locations: Kay's Kozy Korner, Governor's Pub and Eatery, Ed's Books, Maple Leaf Restaurant, and Doktor Luke's.

Grim was filmed over nine days during the summer of 2017 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. With 60 cast members and over 20 filming locations throughout Sydney, Glace Bay, and Whitney Pier, Grim is the biggest Tar City project to date. The film was conceived and written by Fritz Bishop after completing production on Tar City's first feature, Bigsby, originally intended to parody the amateur, guerrilla style of filming the crew adopted in their previous film. Grim draws inspiration from classic Canadian
mockumentaries like Hardcore Logo, Fubar, as well as the 1992 Belgian film Man Bites Dog, exploring themes of arrested development, social status, identity, and criminal elements of small communities.

Tar City Productions was founded in 2016 by Fritz Bishop and Kenzie Cameron, it was has since produced two feature films, a documentary, a stage play, and six short films. Members volunteer their time, knowledge, and hard work to create a unique, creatively collaborative environment of non-union
film production. Tar City recently held its first Get Made contest, in which writers submitted short films to be produced with equipment and personnel from Tar City. Participants completed extension writing, directing, and production workshops before recruiting their own crew and casting actors to
direct their shorts. The three films were screened at Tar City's One Night Stand on March 3rd 2018, where a winner was chosen by judge and audience vote to open the premiere screening of Grim at the Highland Arts Theatre. Tar City is currently completing post-production on our second documentary with plans to begin pre-production on our third feature film in early summer of 2018.
