David Childers and the Serpents
Childers is a 65-year- old former attorney who in his spare time has written poetry, painted and recorded 15 albums of country, folk and rock. Childers' songs revolve around the characters he's encountered growing up on the rural margins of Charlotte, and the religious zeal that defines those characters' lives. Childers sings with a rich blue-grassy voice while playing guitar and harmonica. His most recent album, Run Skelton Run was produced by Don Dixon of R.E.M. fame and has a guest appearance from Scott Avett of the Avett Brothers. His songs get frequent radio play on 91.7 WSGE Gaston College and 88.7 WNCW Spindale.
