The Friel Sisters, Cathal McConnel Trio at EFC / Edinburgh Folk Club

Young traditional musicians Anna, Sheila and Clare Friel are Glasgow born and raised with deep family roots in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Their repertoire comprises music interspersed with songs in English and Irish, many from their family repertoire. Being siblings, they achieve a close blend on fiddle, flute and uilleann pipes. They have performed in venues and at festivals across Europe, America and Asia appearing on stage with acts such as Altan, The Chieftains, Lúnasa, The Máirtín O'Connor Trio, Cherish the Ladies, Solas and Fidil. They have played to sell-out audiences at the Acoustic Music Centre in the Fringe.

The Cathal McConnel Trio was " ... and friends" who are Kathryn Nicoll (fiddle) and Karen Marshalsay (harp). Cathal is one of traditional music's true legends. From the 1960s when he was a founding member of Boys of the Lough he has taken Irish music round the world touring the USA countless times and entertaining audiences with his sweetly sung ballads, his lightly worn tin whistle and flute virtuosity and his inimitable drolleries A one-man carrying stream of tradition, Cathal is particularly in his element when accompanied by his superbly talented friends.

An evening with Cathal McConnell in any situation is time well spent and this particular evening with the wonderful bonus of The Friels is sure to be musically enriching, hugely rewarding, a whole lot of fun and simply one which we will all remember for a long time.
