Released on March 17, 1978 This Years Model is Elvis Costellos second album, but the first fully recorded with the Attractions, and one of his best. It made #82 on Qs Magazine list of the top 100 British albums ever and 98 and Rolling Stones list of the 500 greatest albums. Its magic comes from the mixture of the snarl typical of 1977 London, Elviss great songwriting and the killer playing of the Attractions.

In his autobiography, Elvis describes the process of writing it and recording it:

Vain and deluded people called it inspiration. I just called it work. The difference was that The Attractions could play rings around everybody else. I just had to stand in the middle and sing
