The concert will begin at 7:30 at Peery's Egyptian Theater.

Ta'u Pupu'a is unique in the opera world. He was an outstanding Defensive End in the NFL but a career-ending injury changed his life and led him to a new career: opera. He is just as outstanding in his role as operatic tenor, as shown by the following comments: "...He seems to have limitless power... but the voice has real gold in its best moments." (New York Times) "...Everyone took notice at his brilliant tone, breath-control and ravishing, powerful tenor..." (Italian Tribune),
Ta'u Pupu'a is a graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center (ADOS) and is a native of the Polynesian Kingdom of Tonga. He attended Weber State University in Utah on a football scholarship while pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree, during which time he was drafted to the N.F.L. by Coach Bill Bellichick of the Cleveland Browns (which became the Baltimore Ravens). After sustaining an injury playing for the N.F.L., he changed career direction to follow his passion. You can learn more about Tau at http://www.taupupua.com/
Karen Brookens Bruestle received her Doctor of Musical Arts from Arizona State University. Upon accepting the position at Weber State, she began building the opera program, and has made it into an extremely successful program that has seen performances of such widely varying operas as Mozart's Magic Flute, and Puccini's Madame Butterfly.
Concert attendees will be treated to performances of such well-known arias as Nessun Dorma from Turandot, Vilia from Lehar's The Merry Widow, La Donna è Mobile from Rigoletto, and others. Tau and Karen will also join together on the famous duet from La Traviata, Brindisi: Libiamo, nelieti calici.
The orchestra will open the program with Bellini's Overture to Norma, and will perform the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, and the final section of Rossini's Overture to William Tell, interspersed between the arias.
