Amy Beach and Her Contemporaries
This concert will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of a local luminary, composer Amy Beach. While Beach was pioneering her way into the hearts of Bostonians, her contemporaries were also busy writing for womens voices. From France there were Cécile Chaminade, Lili Boulanger and Germaine Tailleferre; from England, Ethel Smyth; and back in Boston, Mabel Daniels. Featuring Beachs "The Rose of Avon-Town", accompanied by a 14-piece chamber orchestra, we will present a treasure trove of some of the best (but least known) choral works written at the turn of the 20th century.
