Film Screening: 'Deeply Rooted'
Learn more about seed saving, the Ark of Taste and Slow Food Columbus's commitment to biodiversity.

"Deeply Rooted" is the story and celebration of John Coykendall, a renowned heirloom seed saver, master gardener at Blackberry Farm, and a champion of biodiversity and the Ark of Taste. The film, produced by Christina Melton for Louisiana Public Broadcasting and distributed this fall by American Public Television, introduces us to the life-story of John and celebrates saving our seeds and stories.

In addition, we will sample red beans and rice provided by Camellia Beans. Red beans and rice are one of Americas great heritage dishes: delicious, egalitarian and centuries-old. Historically served on washday Mondays in New Orleans, the dish has brought generations of families and friends together at the dinner table.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 30 for the screening of "Deeply Rooted" and a lively discussion about saving seeds and preserving culinary culture! Doors open at 6:30 PM for conversation and sampling. The movie will begin at 7:00 PM.

"Seeds carry with them more than the potential to sustain people as food; they are living history of the people who cared and tended to them and cultivated them and passed them down."
John Coykendall
