Flat Top Flyers
The Flat Top Flyers is a Calgary based bluegrass/folk band made up of musicians from a wide area of musical influence. They have been playing together with this combination of personnel for about six years. On guitar and singing most of the lead and writing many of the songs is Charlie Ewing from Claresholm Alberta. His main musical interest is in country, folk, western and bluegrass/old time music and many of his songs are about the land and history and, as a rancher, the western lifestyle. He has performed with several bluegrass bands and also plays solo and duo gigs. Tim Babey is the mandolin player and also contributes lead and harmony vocals and has written several of the songs as well. As well as bluegrass Tim is a great fan of newgrass and Dawg music. He also has played with several bands around the area and has a unique and pleasing style on his instrument. Tim is a chef by trade so he can really get things cookin. On bass we have Morgan Luchinski. Morgan plays many bass styles, both electric and acoustic. He can slap it and bow it and just make a dog house sing. He also contributes great harmony vocals. Morgan is a fine up and coming luthier and has built several fine violins. The banjo man is captain Karl Lingwood. Karl loves to play the banjo and has written many fine instrumentals. He also sings lead and harmony vocals. He is a highly trained jazz musician and can play any type of sax or flute so dont be surprised to hear a little jazz or celtic come out in our sets. Karl is a WestJet pilot so is the only real Flyer of the group. New to this band but widely known in southern Alberta is Randy Jones on fiddle. He played with three of the group in a previous band so now returns with considerable talent on his instrument and a whole lot of humor and stage presence. He is also an excellent square dance caller.
Allan and Arnell
Alberta musicians Jane Allan & Lance Arnell can play a song that will bring back a memory, inspire an adventure and warm your spirits. Acoustic instruments compliment their tasteful vocals in a variety of musical styles: country, bluegrass-lite, folk, roots and a growing collection of their original tunes. They`ve performed at a variety of venues: community events, gallery openings, corporate functions, Stampede breakfasts, train rides, cowboy poetry festivals, and a multitude of house concerts and campfires while on the trail. If you're searching for music that will take you to the blue sky prairies, into the rugged mountains for some fresh air or around a campfire to hear a tall tale then listen to the music of Allan & Arnell.
Rotary Park
Rotary Park is a Calgary based band playing a special brand of harmony driven, alternative bluegrass. The combination of ambient folk music, powerful vocal harmonies and banjo ripping bluegrass is sure to have to listener immersed and captivated in a sonic atmosphere of Progressive Canadiana. It was in 2011 when Rotary Park was formed by long-time friends and fellow buskers. The band began playing live around the city of Calgary, while working on material for a full length album. October 2012 marked the start of recording as the boys headed into studio to cut their debut album. After over a year of production they released the self-titled record on March 28 2014. With a fresh album and big ambitions Rotary Park hit the road on their first tour across Canada. After a very successful tour the quintet got right back into the grind writing and recording another album in less than a year. On July 10 2015 Rotary Park's second album 'Be' was released. The band followed it up with another coast to coast tour including notable stops at South Country Fair and the Market Collective Locals Stage at the Calgary Folk Music Festival. In early April 2016 Rotary Park performed at JUNOfest to a sold out crowd at the Palomino Smokehouse. After a summer of playing festivals, parties, and music venues across Alberta, long time Rotary Park friend and fellow musician Nicki McRae joined the band; bringing a brand new dimension and depth to the sound. The band immediately capitalized on the momentum and embarked on its third tour across Canada in October. The future has never looked brighter for this group of musicians, entrepreneurs, but first and foremost; friends. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for what Rotary Park has in store.
