Bill Evans - The Banjo In America
"Bill is able to reach into the banjo's past to make a sublime statement of its future...to create a sound firmly rooted in tradition but still fresh and vital." - Tim Bond, Bluegrass Now

Bill Evans is well-known within the bluegrass music community not only as a great musician, but also as a teacher, writer and scholar. The Banjo in America brings together these interests in a unique presentation designed for general audiences and the concert stage.

In The Banjo in America, Bill takes the listener on a musical adventure, following the banjo from its West African roots to the New World, performing musical examples from the 1700's to the present day on vintage instruments. From an 18th century African dance tune to the music of the Civil War, and from early 20th century ragtime to folk and bluegrass banjo styles to Bill's own incredible original music, The Banjo in America illuminates as well as entertains, exposing audiences to over 250 years of American music.

Bill Evans is an internationally-known five-string banjo life force. As a performer, teacher, writer, scholar and composer, he brings a deep knowledge, intense virtuosity and contagious passion to all things banjo, with thousands of music fans and students from all over the world in a career that spans over 35 years. In the last two years, Bill has performed all across North America, Canada, England, Russia and Germany and has appeared with the San Francisco Symphony and on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. His book Banjo For Dummies, is the world's most widely read book on the instrument and his 2012 CD In Good Company charted #1 on the Roots Music Report Folk and Bluegrass Charts and the Folk DJ-List charts. Over a forty year performing career, Bill has played with David Grisman, Peter Rowan, David Bromberg, Dry Branch Fire Squad, Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard, Tony Trischka, and Jody Stecher, and many others. He has produced numerous instructional DVDs/books for Mel Bay, AcuTab, Homespun Tapes and the Murphy Method.
