Big Top w/ The Stephen Nikleva Group

The ANZA Club is proud to present: Big Top with the Stephen Nikleva Group and special guests: Ana Bon Bon, Dennis Miller and Al Mader, with projections by Alexine McLeod.

BigTop sees music inspired by images and stories told through the camera lens, with a bit of circus style thrown in for good measure, Big Tops music seduces the listener into a different time and place. Their Roots Americana soundscapes bring to mind cinematic compositions that are atmospheric, emphasizing melody and mood.

Guitarist/composer Scott McLeod is an experienced performer with a deep history in the Canadian roots music scene, including an extended tenure in Linda McRaes band. For Big Top, McLeod assembled a group of talented, like-minded musicians: Ed Goodine Drums, Stephen Graf - Bass & Soundscapes, Marc L'Esperance Guitar, Gordon Rempel - Organ and Electric Piano, and Jon Wood - Lap Steel. Together they create a haunting musical dedication to the life and times, both past and present, of the roustabouts, carnies, rubes, misfits and performers of the circus.

Described as weirdo space-age surf lounge for the terminally hip and playful, the Stephen Nikleva Group includes Paul Townsend on drums, Patrick Metzger on bass, and Noah Walker on guitar. This is the group Stephen recoded the album Square Moon, described by the Georgia Straight as a tour-de-force and which was called on of the top instrumental releases of the year by the New Gandy Dancer, the English Magazine for Rock instrumental Music.
