Just Before Bach: J.S. Bach and his sources
Harpsichordist Carsten Schmidt will perform a solo recital of works "Just Before Bach." This program includes music by several of Bach's most significant predecessors, who helped shape his musical education. Works by Buxtehude, Bohm, Froberger, Pachelbel, Louis Couperin, and some of Bach's own earliest pieces. Schmidt performs on a German harpsichord modeled on an instrument currently in the Bach-Haus. This event is part of the Staunton Music Festival's Bach Project, a multi-year series of concerts in which Schmidt will perform all of Bach's keyboard works.
