Mogauwane Mahloele / Tharo
Mogauwane Mahloele was born in Storomo and raised in Mamelodi ya Tshwane, South Africa. He is accomplished in both the making and playing of Dikonokono drums, Dundun, Stolotolo (mouth harps), Dipela (Kalimba), flutes, Kora, Doussin Gouni, Birimbau, Balafone, Algaita (traditional trumpet) and is also a sculptor and painter. He now lives in the Philadelphia area and performs regularly throughout North America, Africa, and Europe. During the second half of the set, he will perform with his trio Tharo, which also includes D. Hotep (the guitarist from the Sun Ra Arkestra) and alto saxophonist/composer and fellow Pew fellow Bobby Zankel.
