In our latest creative cycle, 20MOONS dance theatre of Durango has been exploring "the nature of connection", especially in relationship to current world events: connection vs. disconnection... connection that excludes vs. includes others... connections that inspire harmony vs. incite group thought and violence... missed connection and reconnection, etc. The piece that we will premiere in this show uses that exploration as a spring board for choreography that illuminates a cycle of connection and disconnection in and out of harmony and conflict.
In addition to this new work by 20MOONS, we are honored to present work by other regional and local choreographers. Suzy DiSanto of Durango will present an original solo based on questions about aging and the connections within oneself; Dark Sky Aerial Arts of Flagstaff, AZ will bring 4 diverse pieces that showcase their penchant for moving and meaningful work that incorporates the vertical dimension via aerial equipment; and Sasha and Sophia Chudacoff of Crested Butte will share a whimsical butoh-inspired piece designed to delight.
Our intention in weaving together the work of a number of regional artists in this show is to broaden the Durango audience's appreciation for the many faces of contemporary dance theatre. In addition, we're building connections for collaboration that we hope will deepen into even more opportunities for mutual enrichment and sharing between our communities.
And, as always, we hope that audience members attending the show will make their own connections as each of the pieces and the evening as a whole resonates together -- connections within themselves, between themselves and others, and into their experience of the world.
