In Terra Pax - Peace On Earth
The holiday message of peace and good will to all people resonates across the centuries. The centerpiece of the WCC's 2017 holiday concert is Gerald Finzi's lyrical retelling of the Christmas story, "In terra pax", featuring baritone and soprano soloists with members of Sinfonia Sacra, the WCC's own chamber orchestra. Complementing Finzi's music are Mendelssohn's moving prayer for peace, "Verleih uns Frieden", and an energetic Gloria from J. S. Bach's "Mass in A major", also accompanied by Sinfonia Sacra. Additionally the choir will sing a moving Libby Larsen piece entitled "Cry Peace", comprised of the word peace in many languages, and Giles Swayne's timely "Winter Solstice Carol". Favorite seasonal carols will round out the program including a lovely arrangement of "Silent Night" by one of our favorite composers, Peter Bloesch, and "Behold that Star" by William Dawson.
