Amor Artis - Monteverdi Vespers
Amor Artis, joined by the New York Baroque, Inc. will present Claudio Monteverdis Vespers of 1610. In this richly varied collection of psalms, hymns, canticles, and motets, Monteverdi juxtaposes the two musical styles vying for predominance at the turn of the 17th centurythe stile antico and the stile modernodemonstrating his mastery of each. Scored for a diverse array of instruments, both those going out of fashion at the time, like the cornetto and sackbut, and those increasingly in fashion, like the members of the violin family, the Vespers will immerse audiences in the kaleidoscopic splendor of the early 17th-century sound world.
