Dance Journey with The Murmurations Duo
Please join us for a VERY special upcoming arts event combining live improvised acoustic music with improvised dance, movement inspired by the idea of Free flocking, a type of lightly scored group improvisation.
WHO: The group score is facilitated by Vitali Kononov ( Moving by Touch) in collaboration with The Murmurations Duo (Musicians: Suellen Primost, cellist, vocalist and Jeremy Marais, multi-instrumentalist on sax, clarinet, shruti, kalimba, frame drum, bowls, tuning forks and assorted percussion.)
WHAT: Free flocking score suggests that improvising dancers/movers move as a group, but without necessarily copying each others movements. Each follows his/her own dance and personal needs, while, at the same time, listening deeply, spontaneously responding to emerging movement ideas and qualities, developing themes and variations with others they resonate with. As a result we co-create a space where there is a sense of infinite freedom of movement and expression combined with the feeling of connection and attunement with others.
Imagine a flock of birds, a murmuration of starlings, mutually supportive, swooping through the sky, diving into the unknown, exploring space, sound, movement, configuring, re-configuring, but always invisibly connected as a flock. Or imagine a school of fish navigating underwater coral reefs, listening to cues their watery environment provides, seeking food, eluding predators, following each others turns of direction, adjusting speed and pacing. And then think of the range and the scale of human movement potential and the power of creativity that we add as human beings when we find a balance between connection and freedom.
WHO IS THIS FOR: Our intention is to have a focused container and we are going to launch our group journey all together and stay together until the end. Dancers and movers of all kinds and experience are welcome. Those who wish to simply witness may do so at any time by moving to the sides, but there will be no designated audience areas.
WHEN: 4-6PM. This 2-hour group journey will open and conclude with a short group circle. The opening circle will start at 4pm sharp. Please arrive early (10-20 minutes before) and warm up. The doors are open 3:30 and we will close the doors at 4PM.
