Malian guitarist Habib Koité is one of Malis most beloved singers and guitarists. A self-taught virtuoso and performer, Koités style is a mélange of West African musical styles and traditions. His signature open guitar tuning provides a distinct character to his playing and lends it self to blues and flamenco-inflected flourishes. His style, which he calls danssa doso has caught the ear of a number of notable admirers, from Jackson Browne to Bonnie Raitt. As Raitt tells it, With his combination of chops and soul, hes the most amazing guitarist Ive heard in years.
