A very unique night here at the Lizard featuring three performers sharing a love for dynamic, explosive, mind and heart shattering rock
You wouldnt know it from his lyrics, but Bryan Murphy was an angry kid. As frontman for Boston-based rock band The Shills, he writes appealing songs around inventive, guitar-based hooks. Its a far cry from his middle school hardcore band or the experimental performances of his college days at Eastman School of Music in upstate New York, where he was apt to scream at audiences or play his trumpet through heavy distortion. The Shills are a genre-bending rock outfit that have made a name for themselves by taking complex musical ideas, and making them feel effortlessly infectious. With a sound that can go from driving rock rhythms to lush, lofty sonic soundscapes, versatility is the band's true stock-in-trade. From Queen to Queens of the Stone Age, Yes to Radiohead, Motown to metal, punk to jazz, the band's influences are virtually innumerable. All of this comes through in Bryans solo material
is member of the band Trophy Lungs. Melodic, skate and pop-punk all find a place on the with this band, shredding from life on the road to life back home to life, well, in general. One of the strongest features of the band is their take on American politics which is passive-aggressive but laced with enough messages to prod instead of provoking. Think of Red City Radio meeting Blink 182. Mature and pretty fulfilling but packed with enough vibrancy to amp you up in the pit.
DAve Crespo has been playing in bands in Massachusetts since 1999 when he started out fronting and playing lead guitar for Ravin Klaim. He has fronted old school rock bands from the start until now with an attitude that resembles the care free attitudes of vintage rock n roll. After local attention surmounted around Ravin Klaim through The Boston Globe and Fox News, Crespo dismantled the band to go in a different direction with his music in 2007 he started his own band, DAve Crespos After Party.
