Talk The Talk, Walk The Walk: Diverse Representation on Both Sides of the Lens

Aimed at directors and producers, this session will discuss the importance of bringing diverse perspectives and backgrounds both in front of and behind the camera lens. Looking towards the shifting landscape of diversity in film, we will delve into the essential benefits of working with cast and crew members of all orientations, genders, cultural backgrounds and abilities. With the barriers the industry poses being known all too well, the debate will steer towards more productive advice, exploring the options that are available for people of diverse backgrounds, such as funds, initiatives, training and employment opportunities. Additional to exploring what we can do every day to promote the attitude of diversity, we will also discuss what mindsets we must overcome to avoid the trap of creating token roles and the importance of turning to the top of the food chain, discussing how and what kind of leadership is required to make sure that diversity is engaged on a higher, true level.
