This year our kickoff party while not only feature three amazing singer-writers BUT we will be giving away prizing and sells season passes! The Old Church is excited to welcome Whim Grace, Laryssa Birdseye, and Sofia Talvik on September 21st at 8pm!
Growing up in Sweden her music has always had a special tint of her Scandinavian heritage, making her a favorite among music lovers, but her 16 month, and 37 state long tour, through the USA (in an RV) has moved her music closer to the Americana tradition. The adventure on the road spurred a lot of emotions, both those of triumph and joy, but also those of self-doubt and defeat all of which found their way into the songs of her 2015 album Big Sky Country.
April 2015 Sofias 6th studio album Big Sky Country was released. A storybook of adventures and hardships, about sometimes doubting yourself but also finding strength within yourself. 10 original songs written on the road as well as in the contemplation after, beautifully packaged in a simple yet powerful production. Big Sky Country also contains a cover of Starwalker by Buffy Sainte-Marie. The album is being distributed in the USA and Canada by ILS/Caroline/Universal.
Laryssa Birdseye is a singer songwriter based out of Portland Oregon. Self-described as a folk singer with heavy pop and soul influences, her music is not tied down to simply one genre. Many years ago, she stole her older brothers guitar, picked up a Beatles anthology book, and taught herself how to play. After realizing her adolescent attempts at writing poetry were best paired with music, a lifelong relationship with songwriting was born.
Having struggled with addiction and an eating disorder for the better part of a decade, Laryssas songs reflect the turmoil of heartbreak, dependency, regret, and the persistent strive towards recovery and healing. Heavily influenced by legendary female songwriters Amy Winehouse, Joni Mitchell, and Ani Difranco, Laryssa is not one to be overlooked. Watch for her debut album, So What coming in summer of 2017.
Lili St Anne
Touring Trip-Folk band based in Portland Oregon, combining the folk songwriting sensibility of Elizabeth Fagan with the sharply musical drumming of Jason Miller. Canary in the coal mine of love and loss.
"The woman exudes her old soul through her mastery of her own tones. Shes not afraid to crack a note or blare too loudly; you can hear her giving her all. Hervocals have lived a lifetime, with her confident alto relaying an experienced individual. There is a glimmer of Judy Garland in her voice. Her real name is Elizabeth Fagan, but Ill probably still call her Lili"
