FSSGB Fall Getaway Weekend
Each fall, FSSGB sponsors a weekend in a tranquil setting within easy driving distance of Boston. The weekend is filled with music -- song swaps, workshops and mini-concerts led by professional staff and campers on Saturday and Sunday. The Fall Getaway gives campers a chance to meet each other, trade songs and tunes, and enjoy a relaxing weekend away from the city.

We are delighted to have Martin Grosswendt & Susanne Salem-Schatz and Gail Finnie on staff for our Getaway Weekend this year.  Start with two compelling voices, an uncanny sense of harmony and a deep grounding in traditional American music. Add in stunning guitar work and a warm, intimate performance style, and what do you get? Martin Grosswendt and Susanne Salem-Schatz. As one reviewer says, "Martin and Susanne make beautiful music together." Martin is internationally known as an interpreter of pre-war blues and other roots music. Susanne is a veteran of the Boston roots music scene.  Gail Finnie (formerly Rundlett) has been a mainstay of the folk scene in the Boston area since the mid-80's. She is known for her beautiful vocals, as well as being an innovator on the Appalachian dulcimer.  Gail plays four-string Appalachian dulcimer, guitar, and uke, and draws her repertoire from both traditional and contemporary sources.

This years Getaway Weekend program will feature two tracks  one with a focus on singing (with or without instruments) and one with a focus on instrument playing (with or without singing)!  Campers can go back and forth between tracks.  The program for the weekend has not been finalized yet, but the proposed lineup includes Harmony Singing, Counterpoint Harmony Singing, Fingerstyle Guitar, Clawhammer Banjo, Songs for a Sunday Morning, Ballad Singing, and more!  The weekend will also feature a concert by staff members, and a campers' concert for which any camper can sign up to do a song, tune or spoken word piece.  If you have suggestions for workshops, email fgw@fssgb.org.

If you have any questions about the weekend, send email to send email to getaway@fssgb.org or call Lori at 978-264-9710.

NOTE: if you'd prefer not to pay a service fee by signing up online, you can download a paper registration form from our website and send in a check.
