San Jose Youth Symphony's "Bon Voyage Gala Concert"
The San Jose Youth Symphony's Philharmonic Orchestra, under the artistic leadership of Music Director and Conductor Yair Samet, presents its Bon Voyage Gala Concert, featuring internationally renowned violinist, Eunice Kim, to be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, 7:30 pm at the School of Arts & Culture, Mexican Heritage Plaza, 1700 Alum Rock Avenue, San Jose  CA  95113. The Concert will also feature a Silent Auction fundraiser and Wine Reception before the concert at 6 pm.

This summer, the San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) will embark on its exciting international concert tour to the Adriatic and Central Europe. The Philharmonic Orchestra, made up of some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Bay Area, will be performing in four cities in Croatia, Austria and Hungary, at some of Europe's finest concert halls and venues, in Split and Zagreb, Croatia; Vienna, Austria; and Budapest, Hungary. The San Jose community has the opportunity to hear the tour program and to support and bid them farewell at their Bon Voyage Gala Concert on Saturday evening, June 17, 2017, at the School of Arts & Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza.

The program will open with Gershwin's Girl Crazy Overture and will conclude with the most popular of symphonic works, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. This concert will also feature Eunice Kim, who will perform Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor.

A Silent Auction & Wine Reception will be featured starting before the concert at 6 pm, during Intermission, and briefly after the concert, with all proceeds going to SJYS.

The San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) is one of the oldest and finest youth orchestras on the West Coast of the U.S. Founded six decades ago as part of the former San Jose Symphony, SJYS has a rich tradition of musical performance and education.

The mission of SJYS is to provide the youth of our culturally diverse community with exceptional orchestral music education and performance experiences that foster and encourage the study, appreciation and love of music throughout the entire community.

The musicians of SJYS, ranging in age from 8 to 21, are chosen from more than 600 applicants through our annual auditions. The SJYS comprises nine distinct performing ensembles: two full orchestras, a chamber orchestra, two flute choirs, two string ensembles, a jazz ensemble, concert winds, percussion, and harp ensembles.
