STRAUSS String Sextet Op. 85, Capriccio SCHOENBERG Verklärte Nacht
Interval
MENDELSSOHN Octet
Elias String Quartet Navarra String Quartet
A unique chance to hear three of the great German chamber music masterpieces from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Richard Strausss opera Capriccio opens with a rehearsal of this sextet, written by one of the characters. Schoenbergs Verklärte Nacht is based on a poem of the same name by Dehmel, where, walking in a dark forest on a moonlit night, a woman admits to her husband that the child she is carrying is not his own. Mendelssohns Octet is a true miracle, written at the age of sixteen as present for his friend and violin teacher Eduard Ritz. This promises to be one of the highlights of all our festivals so far.
