Orientations: Tarab Edition II - Merita Halili and Raif Hyseni l Arooj Aftab and Charlotte Greve
As part of Orientations; Tarab Edition II, Alwan for the Arts presents a double bill performance featuring:
Merita Halili and Raif Hyseini, performing masterful interpretations of instrumentals and urban folk songs from both Albania and the Republic of Kosovo,
and
Arooj Aftab and Charlotte Greve, in a performance reworking classical Pakistani and North Indian forms to create a fascinating mix of sounds and cultures.

About the Artists:
Arooj Aftab processes the Sufi tradition through an open-minded approach to sonic matter, reminiscent of jazz improvisation and a contemporary production that does not shy away from incorporating subtle electronic undertones. With this method, the Lahore-born, Brooklyn-based artist completely reworks classical Pakistani and North Indian forms such as thumri, khayal and kafi. With these broad inspirations, she creates a fascinating mix of sounds and cultures.
Charlotte Greve is a New York-based alto saxophonist and composer originally from Berlin. With a unique concept of tone and composition, Charlotte is making a mark on both the Brooklyn and German jazz scenes.
Merita Halili is one of Albania's top performers, renowned for her stunning voice, prodigious range and exquisite vocal technique.
Raif Hyseni, originally from the Repubic of Kosova, leads the most sought-after Albanian music ensemble in the United States.
