Fountain in a Wood: From Walden to Loch Lomond
Concord Womens Chorus Announces Premiere of "The Tree House"
The Concord Womens Chorus (CWC) is pleased to announce the premiere of "The Tree House" by Beth Denisch, Professor of Composition at Berklee College of Music. The performance will take place on Saturday, May 13, 4 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, Massachusetts. Denisch, whose critically acclaimed work has been performed from Moscow to Carnegie Hall, was commissioned by CWC to compose this three-movement piece for womens voices, oboe, cello and piano. The text is drawn from three pastoral poems by Kathleen Jamie, one of Scotland's most lauded poets working today. The author of numerous poetry collections, Jamie has received, among other honors, the Forward Prize and the Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year Award.
Artistic Director Jane Ring Frank, now in her 25th year, will conduct the May concert, "Fountain in a Wood: From Walden to Loch Lomond," which celebrates a poetic connection between New England and Scotland. In addition to The Tree House, the program will feature a selection of Scottish ballads and contemporary settings of poetry by Emerson, Hawthorne and Longfellow. Performing with CWC are three of Bostons best instrumentalists: Scott Nicholas, piano; Jennifer Slowik, oboe; Johann Soults, cello.
This program is supported in part by an Alfred Nash Patterson Grant from Choral Arts New England, and by grants from the Acton-Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, and Lincoln local cultural councils, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
