Live at Studio5: ZVONIMIR TOT'S JAZZ STRINGTET
In addition to having perhaps the coolest jazz name ever, Zvonimir Tot is a formidable guitarist and composer. Serbian born, educated in Budapest, and now a highly respected member of the Chicago music community, Zvonimir creates fascinating jazz that is undeniably influenced by his European roots. A couple of years ago Dr. Tot (he describes himself as holding "too many university degrees") told me about a project he had been working on called a "Jazz Stringtet", which consists of himself, a bass player, and a string quartet. It is true chamber jazz. Sound interesting? It is. It is also quite beautiful. Rather than trying to imagine it, click on the video link to listen to Zvonimir's Jazz Stringtet playing his composition, "Groove Me Wah". Cool, huh? At the time that we spoke about this ensemble I was truly intrigued but had no appropriate venue for it. But I never forgot about it, and now that we have our beautiful new home in Studio5 this felt like a perfect fit. We will be recording this performance for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB so come on out to be part of the audience for our broadcast. I'd love to share this uniquely beautiful music with you. --SR
