Woodsmith is Unvarnished and intimate (...) but then sounds like she's about to part the Dead Sea

...Hersch is in the riff zone and never delivers one note for flash and circumstance
The Alternate Root

It was only a matter of time for a project like Woodsmith & Hersch to come togethera band of old friends and road warriors - a super group of sorts - from the New England Roots Rock and Americana scene.

Grammy Nominated singer and songwriter Celia Woodsmith  of the acclaimed bluegrass band Della Mae  and crtically lauded guitarist Chris Hersch of the Alt. Country Rock band Girls Guns & Glory  took the opportunity to form the band they always wanted when both tenures with these international touring acts came to a close.

Welcome to Woodsmith & Hersch.

Curtis McMurtry
"While most of Americana's modern practitioners are busy searching for another rough edge to sand down, Curtis McMurtry's debut is refreshingly unsymmetrical and beautiful. Like few songwriters his age, he truly understands what a big tent American music actually is."
- Joe Pug

Curtis McMurtry writes about villains that think they're victims. Influenced by Fiona Apple, Billy Strayhorn and Leonard Cohen, Curtis' music combines piercing lyrics with lush chords and unusual arrangements. His first solo album Respectable Enemy was released in August 2014, and drew comparisons to The Magnetic Fields, Calexico, and John Fullbright.

More on Woodsmith & Hersch...
Country, R&B and Blues may be the backbone of the band, but make no mistake, Woodsmith & Hersch rock out. Powered by Woodsmiths straight-from-the-depths vocalizing and Herschs finger-flying fretwork (and fortified by vintage Hammond organ tones and rhythm-ready drums) this gutsy ensemble embraces its roots yet keeps its feet firmly in the here-and-now.

Blending distinctive original songs with classic tunes that pay homage to a shared musical heritage, Woodsmith & Hersch evoke the funky drive of Little Feat, the moving vocals of Bonnie Raitt and the instrumental prowess of the  Tedeschi-Trucks Band while maintaining a firm identity of its own.

Ready to electrify a room in any form, Woodsmith & Hersch can be booked as a full quintet, a compact quartet or as a lean-and-mean duo.

Woodsmith has...a sense of connecting with the past...clear even in the modern, self-penned songs
